The Ambassador Class cruiser is Starfleet's first true modern warship. Its reinforced hull bristles with weapon and is protected by impressive shielding. It is capable of extended duty in dangerous territory, and is typically crewed by superior officers.

This new Ambassador Class design is a much deadlier warship, equipped with better weapons and advanced shields. Its presence is intended to discourage aggressive neighbours.

[edit] Star Trek: Bridge Commander

The Ambassador class cruiser was first comissioned in 2325 originally as a replacement for the Excelsior class and was a larger, more capable vessel capable of a wide variety of missions. These vessels are currently being replaced by the more advanced Nebula and Galaxy class starships. The fourth starship Enterprise, NCC 1701-C was a ship of this class.

Both the USS Zhukov under the command of Captain Milus Verata and the USS Excalibur under the command of Captain William Morrison are currently assigned to the Maelstrom.
