In the aftermath of the Dominion War, Starfleet decided to upgrade the existing Compression Rifle. The new and improved version sports a higher rate and more rapid bursts of fire than it's predecessor. The Enhanced Compression Rifle is also equipped with a nose mounted micro grenade launcher for a more concentrated shot, making it more suitable for some Hazard Team missions.
