The Vorsoth were a race of aliens created by a long dead civilisation who sought to dominate the galaxy by improving themselves by mixing the DNA of other races. In order to this, the created The Forge, a large space station to manufacture their warriors, surrounded by a dampening field. Probes were sent out into the galaxy to attack starships, and if they were able to destroy the probe they would be transported into the Dampening Field. Vessels that were abducted in this way included a Borg Cube, Etherian sleeper ship, a Klingon Bird-of-Prey, a Malon waste barge, a Hirogen warship, a Terran Empire starship and the Federation starship Voyager.

Whilst trapped in the dampening field, the Forge would send out harvester ships filled with masses of crab-like aliens which would penetrate a ships hull and overwhelm the ship, salvaging technology and more importantly, the crew for their DNA. After the USS Voyager was able to repel a Harvester attack, the Hazard Team and later Voyager crewmembers retaliated againt them by boarding The Forge, where they were eventually successful in destroying the station and eliminating the dampening field holding all of the ships there. {clr}}
