Welcome to STOwiki Chronicles! The Chronicles is a weekly or bi-weekly section on the STOwiki Main Page. The Chronicles provides a combination of featured articles, in depth news coverage, and wiki development blogs. This article provides a detailed explanation and history of the Chronicles.

History
Many wikis have a featured article section where they highlight articles that they deem are high quality. Naturally, since it seems to be a good idea, STOwiki has to have it too.
However, featured articles did not make it into the first major main page redesign which took place mid-2005. At that time, STOwiki staff included only Jaz and IonParticle. Both of whom were quite new to wiki editing. A featured articles section was rejected on the grounds that, as STOwiki news are quite slow, it's very likely that we will probably run out of articles to feature some time down the road.
After the first redesigned main page was launched, several necessary wiki overhauls drastically changed the appearance of the redesigned main page. Administrator Jaz started voicing a desire for a new main page and with that new main page, a featured articles section. A failed redesign effort was launched but stalled and failed due to lack of inspiration.
Coincidentally, after the launch of the first redesigned main page in May 2005, a second major main page redesign effort was launched in May 2006. This time, with a bit more experience and staff behind STOwiki, it was decided that a featured articles section is needed. Jaz discovered the SporeWiki, which provided a basis for the new color theme. Maziwrath provided a rough draft of main page layout. Heatcliff provided some new graphics. IonParticle did the coding.
The new main page was not the only thing different about the wiki, thanks to Webmaster961, several new extensions were installed to the wiki.
Sections
The STOwiki Chronicles will have three types of features: featured articles, news coverage, and wiki development.
Featured Articles
Short excerpt from an article that is considered to be one of the best works on the STOwiki.
News Coverage
When major news break out that affects a major section of the wiki or our knowledge about the game, a detailed news article will be written for it.
Wiki Development
As a way of thanking editors, we will highlight major projects and the users responsible. Also, when parts of the wiki is undergoing major redesign, we will highlight plans for the redesign and seek public opinion here.
