The Wikiverse is a project of STGU designed to provide the users with a user guide to Star Trek Gaming and things related to Star Trek Gaming. Users may edit and add content to this guide to help fill in needed informational gaps, correct misinformation, etc.

STGU has been growing and expanding its focus at an incredible pace! Looking into our past you will see our roots are buried deep in the world of PC based Star Trek games. Over time our efforts have expanded from a single game focus, to focusing on all PC based Star Trek games, and recently expanding again to cover every Star Trek game ever made in any form! Our staff works hard providing news coverage, special features, gaming events, interviews, game libraries, images libraries and more for the community. There is a constant flow of ideas on how we can do things better, how we can provide our visitors with more information and resources, and how we can continue to be a positive force in the world of Star Trek gaming!

When you mix determination with imagination, great things can happen. Which is why I can’t begin to tell you just how excited our team is regarding our newest initiatives? Fact is, I personally am Sooooo excited about it, that even though these initiatives are still in space dock being worked on, I'm spilling the beans now! The rest of the team will probably beam me into a bulk head for doing this so know that I put my very life at peril in revealing this! The concept and effort is so big, so ambitious, that it's impact will be felt across the world of Star Trek Gaming for years to come! Our feelings about this initiative are akin, I'm sure, to what Doane Robinson felt about the project in which his passion resided. What I really love about this effort, and excites me the most, is that the entire Star Trek gaming community is going to take part in making it happen!! So what is it?

It is the Star Trek Gaming Wikiverse!!

A massive effort that spawns four distinct Star Trek gaming resources built by the community, for the community!

Wikiverse is a combination of our 'Universe' theme and the word Wiki. A Wiki, for those not familiar with the term, is a collaborative website that gives every visitor the ability to edit its content using a standard web browser. A more comprehensive definition can be found right here in what is one of the shinning examples of Wiki successes, the Wikipedia!
The Star Trek Gaming Wikiverse comprises four distinct wiki sites, each focused on an important aspect of the Star Trek gaming community. Here is a description of each of the four sites that comprise the STGU Wikiverse:


Codename: "Starbase One"
Purpose: To document the entire history of Star Trek gaming!

What does it mean to document the entire history of Star Trek gaming? StarBase One's goal is, at first glance, a seemingly simple attempt to list every game that was ever made, an extension of our own Game Library and those found at other sites. But Starbase One is much much more then a list of games! It is a gigantic leap, an evolution if you will, that starts with a 'game lists' and grows to be so much more! Starbase One will not only document every game ever made in any form, but every person, every company, every event, every article… just about every thing that has touched the world of Star Trek gaming!

The games themselves are the epi-center of an ever expanding pool of information. Starbase One will document every possible aspect of every game, expanding far beyond what is typically captured for 'Game listings'. Each game will be fully documented in terms of missions, cheats, walk-throughs, and more. In addition it will have detailed information on every company involved including every employee of that company that worked on a Star Trek based game in any aspect. It will include lists of every website ever created that touched that game, and the people involved in creating and maintaining those websites. It will capture every Clan or Fleet to be involved with that game. Every mod created for the game, every person and every team responsible for creating those mods. Every review, preview, announcement, developer diary, and press release will be entered. All this and more!

In addition to the games it will contain general information that is not tied to any specific game. It will capture every electronic or paper based article relating to any aspect of Star Trek gaming. Where possible and with permission it will capture the article text itself so that those written works will not be lost as games, companies, and websites come and go over time.

This enormous amount of information will be categorized and presented in such a manner as to make it both easy to navigate and easy to find what you are looking for. The inter-linking nature of the Wiki means we can create information pathways in a variety of configurations. Want to know who "Chris Jones" is and what his role in the history of Star Trek gaming was? From the company's he's been involved with to the projects he's lead or been involved in? It'll be there. Want a timeline that shows every written article, or maybe just every game announcement? It'll be there! Maybe you want to find out every Visioneer who worked testing a Star Trek game? Or maybe you want to see a timeline that shows game releases in conjunction with major events in the Star Trek franchise? It'll be there! All of this information and more!

The incredible breadth and depth of information that will be put into this wiki on all aspects involving the world of Star Trek gaming will be phenomenal! All of this is possible thanks to the combined efforts and knowledge of the entire Star Trek gaming community! Working together we will create an information resource that is far beyond anything that is currently available. In doing so the community will create an invaluable resource and living history of the world of Star Trek gaming!



Codename: "Spacedock Alpha"
Purpose: To provide the modding community a centralized location in which to share information on how to mod Star Trek games!

This Wiki should make anyone who's worked to mod a Star Trek game tingle with excitement. Wiki based mod sites have proven themselves time and again to be incredibly useful in helping to fill the informational needs of modders. The tips, tricks, tutorials, api calls, directory structures, file designations and other required knowledge associated with modding any particular Star Trek game has been, up to now, spread across a variety of websites and presented in a variety of forms (from information stored in text files, to pdfs, to sticky forum posts, finding what you needed was often a laborous process). Until now there has not been a single site resource where new modders can easily find the information they need, and the experience modders share what they know, in a collaborative environment.

Modders are a special breed of people for which every person who has ever loaded a mod gives daily thanks for! A central repository that modders can go to has long been overdue in the Star Trek gaming world! Spacedock Alpha is a living breathing central repository on every aspect of modding for every moddable Star Trek game! Spacedock Alpha will be the 'Great Link' that will bring modders from every aspect of the Trek gaming world together! With the assistance of some of the greatest modders in the community as well as the very people who created the games, this wiki will become the cornerstone upon which great things will be created!



Codename: "STOwiki"
Purpose: A dedicated Wiki for the MMOG Star Trek: Online!

Now you are probably wondering why we have broken Star Trek:Online out into its own Wiki. The main reason behind doing this is because the sheer depth in which we are going to document this game demands we do so. Unlike standard games, MMO's are more of a living breathing entity. They are massive in terms of the content and game play they offer. Through expansions these games continue on for many years. So it just makes sense to break out this game into its own Wiki. STOwiki will store the static information you would find in the Starbase One wiki, as well as the ever-changing aspects of the game. Every mission, every planet, every landing site, every race, every skill, every starbase, every ship, every game event and more will be captured. It will contain player logs, tips, tricks, advice, battle reports, custom holo-deck setups, recorded game footage, star maps, guilds/fleets, servers, downtime, game play changes, and everything else that encompasses a MMOG and how players will interact within the game. STOwiki will be as valuable to Star Trek Online players as Google is for the internet surfer! I literally want to jump out of my chair and yell "YES!" when I think of what a fantastic resource this will become!

It may seem a bit early to open such a Wiki, but there is already loads of information to document. STO lives and breathes and changes even now and capturing this ‘history in the making’ is what the Wikiverse initiative is all about!


Wow, that was a long read no? But isn't it exciting!?!?!! I'm hoping these wiki's will be a resource for Star Trek gamers long after I've left this world. It is my pledge, my commitment to the community, that these survive should for some reason STGU come to an end. If we are unable to host these wiki's or should the site go down with no hope of returning, we will find a site that can continue to host and maintain these so that their value to the community and the work invested in them will never be lost!

So how do you even approach such a overwhelming task? Remember that latin phrase at the beginning of this post? It translates to "Everything has a small beginning". It goes hand in hand with another saying: "How do you eat an Elephant? One bite at a time." We have the software already installed and ready to go. But before the sites are launched, we will map out what data we plan to collect. Once we have that defined will open the doors for everyone to start taking bites. It is with great excitement we begin this incredible journey! It is with great fellowship that we all work to make this happen together!
